Description
This thick, beefy chili clings perfectly to hot dogs, elevating a simple meal into something exciting and satisfying.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 pinch sugar (optional)
- 1/2 cup water or broth
Instructions
- Start with a medium pot over medium heat. Add the ground beef and break it up really well.
- Add onion and cook until the beef is browned and the onion is soft. Then stir in garlic for about 30 seconds.
- Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, spices, salt, pepper, and a splash of water or broth.
- Bring to a gentle bubble, then turn the heat down and let it simmer uncovered.
- Stir every few minutes for about 20 to 30 minutes until it thickens and darkens.
- Taste and adjust salt, adding sugar if desired.
