Description

This thick, beefy chili clings perfectly to hot dogs, elevating a simple meal into something exciting and satisfying.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 pinch sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 cup water or broth

Instructions

  1. Start with a medium pot over medium heat. Add the ground beef and break it up really well.
  2. Add onion and cook until the beef is browned and the onion is soft. Then stir in garlic for about 30 seconds.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, spices, salt, pepper, and a splash of water or broth.
  4. Bring to a gentle bubble, then turn the heat down and let it simmer uncovered.
  5. Stir every few minutes for about 20 to 30 minutes until it thickens and darkens.
  6. Taste and adjust salt, adding sugar if desired.

Notes

Chili can be customized to your heat preference. Freezes well for easy meals later.
