Description

Delicious handheld cookies that combine the flavors of classic apple pie with salted caramel for a cozy treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup store-bought caramel sauce
  • Flaky salt for topping

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop your apples small. Add them to a pan with a little butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Cook for about 6 to 10 minutes until the apples are softer but not mushy.
  2. Let the apple filling cool while you make the dough.
  3. Cream the butter and sugars together until fluffy. Mix in the egg and vanilla. Add flour, baking powder, and salt, stirring just until combined.
  4. Scoop the dough onto a baking sheet and make a dent in the center of each scoop. Spoon in a bit of cooled apple filling.
  5. Bake at 350°F until the edges look set and lightly golden, about 10 to 13 minutes.
  6. Drizzle caramel over the cookies and sprinkle with flaky salt.

Notes

These cookies can be made ahead of time and stored airtight. Drizzle caramel just before serving for the best appearance.
