A quick and easy recipe for hearty Sloppy Joes that combine ground beef with a tangy-sweet sauce for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup onions, chopped
- 1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Burger buns
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef.
- Cook the beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
- Drain any excess fat from the skillet and return the beef to the pan.
- Add the chopped onions and green bell pepper to the beef.
- Cook the vegetables with the beef until they soften.
- Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Add the garlic powder and onion powder and mix well.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste and stir to combine.
- Reduce the heat and simmer the mixture for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed before serving.
- Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto burger buns and serve warm.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with lentils or plant-based ground. Serve with toasted buns to add structure.
