Description

A quick and easy recipe for hearty Sloppy Joes that combine ground beef with a tangy-sweet sauce for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup onions, chopped
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Burger buns

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef.
  2. Cook the beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  3. Drain any excess fat from the skillet and return the beef to the pan.
  4. Add the chopped onions and green bell pepper to the beef.
  5. Cook the vegetables with the beef until they soften.
  6. Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
  7. Add the garlic powder and onion powder and mix well.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste and stir to combine.
  9. Reduce the heat and simmer the mixture for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  10. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed before serving.
  11. Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto burger buns and serve warm.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with lentils or plant-based ground. Serve with toasted buns to add structure.
